Activities President Report - 26/10/06
Time is a flying. OK so the NUS result is in. 89% honestly surprised me but then it's amazing what a good campaign can do.
One thing we're not resting on is that that 89% are also happy in every way with the NUS. We've got meetings set up for next week, and will continue to engage with the NUS in the forseeable future to ensure that we're working together in a functional way that will benefit both parties.
The week leading up to the referendum result was a nightmare. I honestly wish it hadn't have happened then given we are building up to the National Demo this Sunday, but it did, and it drained everyone involved. But at least at the same time we elected our new site chairs. These people are responsible for putting on extra fun activities on your campus so look out for what they're doing. Frenchay site chairs for one are very pro-active and I can't wait to see what they organise for the residents and students at Frenchay!
I've also met with a woman that is an international student that is raring to go and will hopefully be elected as my vice president at the next activities council. Remember that if you have any motions to put in then you need to get them in within the next week to me! Along with another pro-active meeting with what are called the societies executive, responsible for keeping the socieities running, in check, and moving forward...I think we've got a really good team of people this year raring to go in pushing UWESU forward.
A date for you. 2nd of November, this Thursday coming, at 5pm. Come to the 5th floor of F Block if you want to help raise money for charity. We've got an excellent response so far and need all hands on deck to get RAG off the ground. For an explaination of Rag...come to the meeting!
A final couple of notes. Firstly that myself and Kat, the sports president, went to Bower today to go and discuss the parking issues there. It was a very informative meeting and it is going to be a tough issue to crack, but we will crack it as much as we can! But clearly parking and traffic are THE biggest issue for students right now, and unfortunately it may mean unpopular decisions to try and push things in the right direction, who knows.
Secondly we have a Snow Ball on the 7th of December, it's our "formal" event, in that you really need to dress up posh. It's at the Ashton Court Mansion and it is truly a special event to attend. It's £30 and you can buy from any UWESU site office or reception. It's not a night to miss, but if you do then our end of year party is the day after on the 8th! You have *no* excuses to miss both!
I apologise if I've missed anything but it's time to head to bed. If you have any questions or queries then let me know on activities.president@uwe.ac.uk
