Election Manifesto - 2006
Election manifesto from March 2006
Profile
For the last three years, I have been a student at this university. This has given me an insight and a greater understanding of the pitfalls faced by all of us as students. Coming from London, which is the multicultural hub of Europe I know and I have the experience of dealing with cultural diversities.
Many of you may know that I am a student warden over at Waverley House, so when I say I understand the cultural diversities, I know, you know what I am talking about. Just like you, my musical taste various from Bob Marley to Prodigy.
Aims:
- Making sure students' voices are heard and taken into consideration e.g. Parking, more bars.
- Support and enhance Blackboard, exam feedback, electronic submission, and lectures cancellation via SMS.
- Improve transportation: less fees, regular service; late shuttle service targeting late lectures 20:00 - 21:00.
- Increase students' involvement within the Union making it an accessible part of student life.
- Improve campus activities and events building positive relationships with students from all halls
Manifesto:
As SRC president I will listen to the needs of students and give them what they want. I will stand up and fight for your right. I will act as a mediator between students and the university and will be approachable and accessible at all times. I aim to make each campus a place of great interest.
Transportation fees have increased in comparison with previous years. I will campaign to cut these fees and ensure that each campus has adequate transport. For example, I aim to see shuttle buses running from the city centre to all campus sites.
Improve the level of services and introduce more activities within all campuses. e.g. Frenchay campus currently accommodates around 252 students living on site and using facilities such as Core 24 and the refectory. Next year there will be up to 2000 students living on site and many more studying at the campus throughout the academic year. Will the current facilities be enough to accommodate such a huge number of students?
Improve facilities to help part time students and those who are on a placement year. As some of us know we only have a limited number of access points for wireless ResNet, I aim to increase that considerably. I would like to implement lecture cancellation notices via SMS across all faculties.
I aim to encourage communication between all the different societies. I believe it would help them in accomplishing their aims and meet the needs of the students they serve.
