Manifesto

So why vote for us?

By voting for us you are voting for a trustworthy, approachable duo that will take account of your opinions and make the voice of G-Siders heard.

Whilst the SU plays a central role for many Glensiders we feel it is also important to focus on the wider issues too. As such we intend to increase accessibility to the support network for new and existing students. For example through improved advertising of support systems and contacts. Publications of student questionnaires will increase the awareness of student issues. We WANT to know what YOU think the pros and cons of Glenside are. This way your voice WILL be heard, and we can tackle your problems head on whilst you sit back and relax knowing you’re in safe hands.

The SU has the potential to be a lively student hub every night of the week. If you vote for us we would love to give the union an extreme makeover; from “Scout Hut” to “Student Central”. We will work hand in hand with the management to turn things around for you. So in the words of Vauxhall Corsa “C’MON!”. Give yourselves a chance of a lifetime

I love music, and I think I’m blessed in the sense that my taste is very much widely varied. I am easy going, can pretty much accommodate anybody and am confident in my abilities. So, without much ado, Shizzle ma Nizzle, so Frizzle can Brizzle

Manifesto

Ok lets keep this bit right and simple!. Frenchay campus could be improved upon in terms of its social existence. I am no magician but I believe that so long as the views of the student population in Frenchay are heard, then positive changes and improvements can be made possible. I intend to represent your views in the activities council to the fullest of my capabilities.

I seek to consolidate the UWE student union’s status and improve your lives further with the following objectives:

*Seek YOUR views as to what YOU would want to see and have on Frenchay campus.

* Making sure that YOUR views are heard, and due consideration given to it by the authorities via the activities council.

* Introduction of cultural /ethnic themed events aimed at making Frenchay campus become a home for a more diverse range of students.

Campus Chair – Hartpury

Katy Berrill

Katy Berrill

Personal Statement

I am a 19 year old Equine Business Management student at Hartpury College. I grew up in Bedfordsire where I went to school. I am a confident outgoing person who is friendly and approachable. I want to get the most out of everything I do. I captained the 1st netball team and in my final year year at school I was elected as Head Girl. A role I loved and it taught me self confidence, determination and how to achieved personal goals. At Harpury I am a Student Ambassador and also a Student Representative.

Manifesto

Due to my current position at Hartpury as a student ambassador and student representative I see it from several difference perspectives. Most importantly as a student I have a good working relationship with the staff which I hope will continue and strengthen as my time at Hartpury grows. I feel this is advantageous if I am going to help student get what they want.

At Hartpury there are certain issues which I feel need to be addressed. I want to improve communication between students and staff so there is no longer frustration over actions taken. The overall student experience can always be improved and I intend to listen to the students and do everything I can to facilitate change towards those needs. Nightlife on site for HE students needs to be addressed to ensure a real university experience, speed bumps are a major sore point amongst students, a solution must be possible and I aim to find it. To this and too much much more. I want to be there for every single student to talk to and believe in to make changes.

Hartpury is a fantastic place to be and to study and if certain issues can be addressed to improve everyone’s experience in some way; Hartpury will continue to improve and provide a community for us. So all that’s left to say is Vote for me and trust me!

Activities Vice President

Elizabeth May

Elizabeth May

Personal Statement

Current 2nd year Psychology student who is actively involved in a wide variety of UWESU activities including; Campaigns Chair, NUS Regional Delegate, Interest Rep for Societies Executive and member of the Student Reps Council. Has been involved with the Activities and Societies at the Union for the last two years, particularly through work with Psych Soc and OutUWE.

Has an active working knowledge of how both the NUS and UWESU function, including all of the paperwork!

Has spent the past year working closely with the current activities president, Alice, on campaigning and society issues

Manifesto

Activities are a vital part of UWESU, from societies through to the bars and special events like the Snow Ball, they are also a huge responsibility. One which needs to be shared.

With a solid background already in a variety of roles linked to the Activities elements of the Union, including roles such as Campaigns Chair and Interest Rep for the Societies Executive, I will be able to hit the ground running with a good knowledge of the procedures which exist within UWESU and be able to provide the assistance desperately needed by our Activities President.

The key element of Activities which I feel needs to be focused on next year is increased participation; both within existing societies and through setting up new societies. University is a key time to develop ones interests, and I feel more people should be able to be included in the interests which our societies represent. Through campaigning and marketing, student involvement should hopefully increase next year.

Welfare is another issue which I feel strongly about. The Union should focus more of its attention on running effective campaigns, of interest to the student population. If elected I hope to set up, along with the Activities President, a Campaigns Committee so that awareness on key issues, for example Drink Spiking and Sexual Health, can be increased throughout the university.

In essence, Activities at UWESU, need to increase engagement with the students it represents, through increased participation and welfare issues.

Bullet Points

  • To increase awareness of key campaigning issues which effect students at UWE.
  • To increase participation in society activities at UWESU.
  • To support the Activities President in organising key events at UWESU.
  • To represent the Activities President, if they are unable to attend any meeting or event.
  • To help to make next year at UWESU even better!
