Law 2: The Social Club
2.1 Name: The Club shall be known as the "University of the West of England Students' Union Social Club" hereinafter referred to as “the Club”. (The University of the West of England Students’ Union is hereinafter referred to as “the Union”.)
2.2 Objects: The objects of the Club shall be the promotion of social, cultural and educational activities, and to provide facilities for appropriate entertainment and refreshment for members.
2.3 Premises: The premises of the Club shall be situated at: the Students' Common Room and Refectory, the University of the West of England, Bower Ashton, Bristol BS3 2JU and at the Glenside Student Centre, the University of the West of England, Glenside Campus, Blackberry Hill, Stapleton, Bristol. BS16 1DD.
2.4 Membership: The members of the Union shall be the members of the Club in accordance with clause 5.5 of the Constitution of the Union.
2.5 Register: A register of the names and addresses of all members shall be maintained by the Secretary
2.6 Officers: The Officers of the Club shall be the Chairperson, who shall be the Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of the Union, the Secretary, who shall be the General Manager of the Union, and the Treasurer, who shall be the Deputy General Manager of the Union.
2.7 Management: The affairs of the club, in matters not reserved for the club in General Meeting or otherwise for the general body of members, shall be managed by a committee which shall be the Board of Trustees of the Union.
2.8 Purchase and Supply of Intoxicating Liquor: The elected members of the Board of Trustees of the Union shall be the sub- committee concerned with the purchase for the club and the supply by the club of intoxicating liquor. The supply of intoxicating liquor to persons under the age of eighteen is prohibited.
2.9 General Meetings: The Union Annual General Meeting shall be the Annual General Meeting of individual members of the club. The Secretary shall call an Extraordinary General Meeting of the club within 14 days on decision of the Board of Trustees or on the receipt of a petition by 200 full members of the club.
2.10 Club Year: The club year shall be from the 1st August of each year until the 31st July of the year immediately following.
2.11 Permitted Hours:
The permitted hours for the supply of intoxicating liquor shall be:
- Bower Ashton: Monday/Saturday 11am - 11pm Sundays 12 noon – 10.30pm
- Glenside: Monday/Saturday 11am - 11pm Sundays 12noon – 10.30pm
and such further and additional hours as the Magistrates may from time to time authorise.
2.12 Trading Conditions: At the Glenside premises, the club garden shall be vacated by no later than 10pm each evening, and neither the main hall nor the skittle alley shall be used for the purpose of any musical entertainment.
2.13 Visitors and Guests: In addition to members, the club premises shall be open: for the admission of visiting sports and recreational teams and members of other student organisations with which the Union has Affiliate Members agreement to signed in on production of their student identity card; and for the sale of intoxicating liquor to them by, or on behalf of the Club, for consumption on the premises by them or their guests being over the age of 18 years signed in by a full member. Full members are allowed to sign in a maximum of three guests on any one occasion.
2.14 Cessation of Membership: The privileges of membership are conditional on the proper conduct of members and such privileges may be withdrawn by the Board of Trustees in accordance with Law 3 of the Union. In the event of unruly or objectionable conduct by any person on club premises, that person may be required by the manager of the premises or an officer of the club to leave the premises forthwith.
The Board of Trustees shall have the power to make regulations which shall, so far as the same are not inconsistent with these rules, regulate the internal management of the club.
2.15 Amendment to Club Bylaws: Any amendment to the club bylaws shall be made in accordance with the clause 20 of the Constitution of the Union.
2.16 Notification of Alteration in Club Bylaws: Where any alteration is made to the bylaws of the club, the Secretary shall give written notice of the alteration to the Chief Constable and the Clerk of the Local Authority within 28 days.
