Election Manifesto - 2009
Take a look at my 2009 election manifesto.
Personal Statement
At a happy go lucky age of only 24 and with a name as intelligent sounding as William Harding what other reasons do you need to vote for me? Still not convinced? Here are a few more reasons to put in your pipe for smoking.
I ran a sports club as head coach overseeing staff and controlling budgets. I also co-manage several of the market fields at Glastonbury Festival. I know how to run successful events and what’s more I know how make a profit for the union. If you do vote for me you can count on my dedication.
Manifesto
As Activities President I would aim to:
- Make money - This is paramount; if profit is not made then we can not put on bigger and better events. We need to fix what is broken and put more money back into the SU.
- Increase Campus unity - increase awareness of activities on all campuses and to increase involvement across sites.
- Bring fresh ideas for new events - I will use my contacts to bring exciting events to the Unions such as mobile casinos, entertainers and sponsored gaming competitions etc.
- Encourage and support new ideas for activities - I feel it is important for students to get involved and to say what they want to do. If someone is passionate enough about a feasible idea then I will give them the support they need to start it up.
- Fresher’s Week - Normally a really well organised week that’s loads of fun, we need to keep up the momentum.
- Damage control - lets sort out crunchie! It used to be a very profitable event but now it’s seen the end of its cheesey music days. Working with the experienced staff lets seek realistic changes to increase participation in these weekly events and again increase cash flow back into the SU.
- Work closely with societies - hold more open meetings to increase transparency and communication between societies e.g. funding issues and participation.
Bullet Points
- Increase profitability of existing activities to fund bigger and better events for the union.
- Heighten awareness of what’s going on across campuses and providing the means to get involved.
- Build on fresher’s week, carry on improving.
- Supplying new and exciting events to make the campus the night to go out for.
- Let’s review funding for societies and open more communications between them and the union.
