  • Johnny Thunder and the Heatbreakers - influential New York punk rockers, joined by Paul Cook and Steve Jones of the Sex Pistols. Oct '77 Reference

"Johnny Thunders hurriedly gathered up some phone numbers and called Sex Pistol drummer Paul Cook down to the gig at Bristol Polytechnic to help out for the evening. Cook bought with him Steve Jones to add further guitar parts. Both Pistols played with the Heartbreakers in a gig that carried all the now characteristic aggro of a punk night out: when soccer hooligans tried to trash the hall, they knocked the promoter unconscious. But at least the Heartbreakers got five encores. Soon Steve Jones was to join Sid Vicious as the next heroin-addicted member of the Sex Pistols."

Blur at Bristol Polytechnic 2nd of November 1990

Shortly after releasing their first single - She's so high - Blur played to about 50 people (including me and a couple of mates) in what was then simply a commen room and which is now called the Red Bar. I remember the gig being pretty raucous, with a healthy bit of moshing and stage diving going on and the gig ended with Alex James jamming his bass into the suspended ceiling - phew rock and roll eh!!
