UWESU Societies have grown and developed throughout the year with 14 new societies being successfully set up.
They have put on a variety of diverse events and opportunities for their members. Existing societies have also been involved in putting on their own events, debates, socials, trips and campaigns on a regular basis. Societies have not only worked independently but worked together on various UWESU & UWE campaigns and events.
The 2nd annual Explosion of Culture occurred in December highlighting the diversity of the culture that exists at UWE and in Bristol. This featured stalls and performances from many societies and local groups. UWESU Hellenic Society won the award for best performance with UWESU Breakdance coming a close second.
The first UWE Student Health & Awareness Week happened in February with great input from Capoeira, Breakdance, Amnesty, LGBT and Yoga Society; they demonstrated ways of keeping fit and created awareness of many health issues.
Individual society success included Comets Cheerleading coming second for their routine in the Western League Cheerleading competition and Paintball, after their first ever tournament being the 7th best University team in the U.K.
