This was my October article for Westerneye... thought I'd create a blog out of it...
Well it’s the morning after the Super Hero RAG bar crawl – what a great night! Although I still don’t understand why one of the RAG chairs was dressed up as Tina Turner – when did she save the world?? It’s been manic up on the 5th Floor of the Student’s Union. We started off the year with 3 days of Exec and committee training. We then moved on to induction talks to as many of the Fresher’s as we could in the big marquee talks! We played the U – WE/ U – WE/ U – WE game. Remember? Thank you for not booing me off, I was just training you all up for the Varsity series. Then there were the Fresher’s Fairs at all campuses finishing with the massive Frenchay Sports and Societies Fresher’s Fair. The demonstrations were pretty cool with Trampolining close to jumping through the Marquee roof, Tae Kwon Do breaking breeze blocks with their fists and dance getting volunteers up to have a wiggle (me included). Putting Fresher’s aside, the other stuff we’ve been working on includes the promotion of the disabled student’s group – we’ve had plenty of interest and a first meeting booked. If you’re interested, please give me an email and come along – or write on our forum! We’ve got Intramural coming up too, this year we’ve managed to run it at a much cheaper price -£22.50!! Check it out on the website or ask for more info at any Students’ Union office. You may have seen some Varsity posters flying about ‘who said it’s the taking part that counts – embrace the rivalry’ we’re working on developing the Varsity series to more Sports. So look out for more information and remember the U-WE chant and we’ll all do UWE proud!! Last but not least, the UWEdnesday launch night will have already happened by the time this gets read – but UWEdnesday happens every Wednesday, 10pm – 3am! Come along!
