"Who's had an accident recently?"
It is vital that we are made aware of any accidents that occur during a club or society event, trip or regular training session. This is because:
- By law all injuries must be recorded
- If you need to claim insurance, we will have the required documentation
- Money from insurance is put back into student activities and has helped to fund the injury clinic.
If you follow these steps, all will be well:
1. Ensure the safety of yourself, your group (if applicable) and the casualty. DO NOT BECOME A VICTIM YOURSELF!
2. Contact the nearest first aider - who will treat the casualty.
3. Call the Emergency Services if necessary.
4. Contact UWESU during working hours or if unavailable the University 24 hour Security Services (The Gatehouse). The numbers are on the reverse of your SU cards, Drivers permit, Drivers Pack, UWESU Activities Code of Practice, and the Trip & Transport Booking Form.
24 hours:
- The Gatehouse: 0117 32 82552
Office hours (9.30 to 17.30hrs):
- Sports and Safety Co-ordinator: 0117 32 83288
- Sports and Activities Centre: 0117 32 82719/83291
5. Inform the Gatehouse Staff there has been an incident involving a student, give them the telephone number you are phoning from and ask them to phone you back.
6. The Gatehouse Staff will require the following information:
- Your name and where you are calling from.
- The name of the club involved and if a trip registration form had been completed.
- A brief description of the incident.
- The name(s) and number of students involved.
- The name of the Hospital where any casualties have been taken.
- The name and number of any Police Officer involved with the incident.
7. The Gatehouse Staff will inform you what to do next, which will usually be to wait by the phone. They will then contact the UWESU Management, who will then implement any necessary action in Bristol. An official from the University will phone you back and inform you what to do next.
