The Just Build It! Campaign Shoots and Scores!
The SU has made significant in roads in the fight to make the University finally build facilities on campus for indoor sports and activities after years of procrastination and buck passing. The Just Build It! campaign has stormed into the play-off stages with promotion suddenly a real possibility for the first time in a decade..
Last Thursday, the SU organised a major outdoor rally involving speakers, activities and music. The event was a massive success with several hundred students and staff attending throughout the day despite the difficult time of year. It gained considerable media coverage with the Evening Post and the Western Daily Press both dedicating nearly a whole page to the story.
"Students demand level playing field"
On the following Monday, a paper was submitted to a major University committee summarising the arguments for the need for sports/ activities facilities and proposing that a multi-purpose venue be built on Frenchay campus by 2007. The proposal was supported and passed with no opposition. The gaining of approval from a high-level committee represents a great success for UWE students and could open the way for a solid agreement from the University committing itself to development.
Next steps in the campaign?
It's absolutely vital that we keep up the pressure on the University until we achieve our objective. A revised proposal is currently being drafted for 'Estates Committee' - the decision making body that commissions University building work. It's crunch time for UWE, will this institution stay in Division One or move into the Premier League? It's simply a question of will power and ambition.
Please support the campaign by signing our online petition or the Just Build It! postcards to the Vice-Chancellor Alfred Morris.

Sports Facilities Campaign
Anyone for Tennis?
No? How Come? Is it because you can't get to a tennis court? What"¦can't afford to join the club because hiring the court costs the players loads? And you can't even afford strawberry teas in the interval? Blimey"¦that sounds a bit crap, doesn't it!

Sports Facilities History
Many new students arriving at UWE for a stint of three or more years studying are either blissfully unaware of the lack of sport facilities here or have been tricked by the UWE prospectus into believing that sporting students are catered for. Once reality dawns it is often too late and by then Bristol, an amazing city, will have hooked you into staying.
Competitive Spirit
Bristol University are the so-called friendly foes down the road that UWE competes with in BUSA South West leagues but also, more famously, in the annual varsity events of Rugby, Rowing and Football.
